Academic Innovations is known for cutting-edge, high-quality textbook and online course materials along with comprehensive professional development resources to assure student and teacher success. Founded in 1990, Academic Innovations publishes the award-winning and well-reviewed Career Choices series.
For the past 30+ years, Academic Innovations’ mission has been to provide schools, districts, and colleges with curriculum materials that promote both high school and college completion. The course materials are used in Freshman Transition courses for high school students, first-year experience courses for college students, bridge programs for middle school students, and as the launch course for CTE pathways and workforce development. The Career Choices series, a unique interdisciplinary curriculum, has been successfully used in over 5,000 schools, colleges, and employability programs across the country since 1990.
The Career Choices series curriculum was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a “Promising Intervention” curriculum, and the U.S. Department of Labor gave the Career Choices series a “Best Practices” citation. Author Mindy Bingham was awarded a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition for Innovative Approaches to Curricula by the United States Congress, and she received the Breaking Traditions Award of the Equity Council of the Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) for her contributions to education.
Focusing on supporting the development of non-cognitive skills and a 10-year education, career, and life planning process, Academic Innovations provides textbooks, an online platform for curriculum and resources, professional development, and technical assistance packages to ensure students graduate with the necessary skills to succeed in their chosen career paths.
In 2009, in collaboration with Santa Barbara City College, which received the Aspen Institute’s Prize for Community College Excellence in 2013, we launched the Get Focused...Stay Focused!® National Resource Center. Annually, our course materials are adopted by 500+ schools in the United States, and over 2.5 million students have been exposed to the life-changing content since 1990. Each year, between 60,000 and 100,000 students take one of our Career Choices series courses in high school, college, or adult education programs.
